It is as simple as being your natural self. Meet Niya. She is a local mom and my yoga instructor. She lives her life as simply as possible and loves all things nature.

I was so pleased when she chose Beach Shutters Photography for her family photos.

Capturing the mom-and-son connection was easy. Oliver adores his mama, and they are two peas in a pod. However, I wanted more than pretty photos for my friend. I also wanted to create a representation of Niya and Oliver as their friends and family see them.

My goal as a photographer was no frills, just a genuine smile from mom & son. Childhood is so fleeting, and I know this better than anyone. Taking the time to be present, get to know your child, and create as many memories as possible are all we can ask for.

Isn’t she a lovely mom?

This pretty mama doesn’t usually wear makeup. I typically see her in yoga clothes, so a simple dress was the perfect wardrobe choice for her photos.

On the way to Oliver’s swim team practice, a quick stop by the beach was all the time needed for this photo session. The beach was a great meeting spot for a soft sunset background and the movement of the waves. Oliver got a bit of playtime, and Mom enjoyed time with her son for a few moments between shots.

Yes, they do grow up fast.

This day only happens once. If there were a rewind button for life, I would push it! We must make the most of the present moment and take the photos. Don’t you wish you had taken more natural & straightforward pictures of your family?
