But let me tell you a little secret: the best moments you’ll feel when you look back years from now usually interrupt the session.

What’s so funny?

Just last week, we had a family session on the beach. The light was dreamy, the outfits were coordinated, and the camera was ready. But about three clicks in, the littlest one spotted a bird and took off in full giggles, chasing it down the shoreline. Right behind him? Big sister, barefoot and determined, calling after him like a mini lifeguard.

Mom turned to me, a little apologetic.

But I just smiled. This is the session.

Next, someone’s found a seashell—” the most special one ever”—and everyone gathers around like it’s a treasure. A splash war breaks out between siblings. A toddler hugs her daddy’s leg so hard it knocks him off balance, and they both end up in the sand, laughing. Then, without warning, someone starts dancing. To the waves. To the wind. Just because.

And somewhere in between the joy, the chaos, the salt, and the laughter, we snap back into “photo mode.” Everyone lines up again, still smiling, a little wetter and messier—but so much more real.

We interrupt this photo session for life, hugs, seashells, reflection, splashes, kisses, dolphin spotting, sandcastles, races, and happiness!

When you look at these photos later, I hope you don’t just remember how you looked. I hope you remember how it felt. The sand in your toes. The sun on your cheeks. The way your little one couldn’t stop giggling. The love that lives in these in-between, interrupted, beautiful moments.
