Play in the Puddles
When life sends you rain, play in the puddles! Summertime thunderstorms are widespread at the beach—almost expected! We do our best to work around whatever Mother Nature throws at us. In this case, an overnight rainstorm created puddles that were perfect for adding a reflective surface to our sunrise photos.
Cheyenne’s daughter waited until the end of her photo session to run through the puddles.
I am so glad this little girl asked for one more photo of herself. What a perfect setup for a carefree lifestyle photo that suits her personality well. The rest of the family followed through with a photo and a maternity shot of Kaitlyn in the pretty little puddle.
Our weather is like a box of crayons.
As photographers, we can appreciate more than sunny skies. There have been cloudy, dreamy days that photograph beautifully. When it rains, we may get a bonus rainbow or a reflective puddle. The sea oats immediately green up after an afternoon shower. Of course, sunny to partly sunny is our goal, but the unexpected beauty from an imperfect weather forecast is welcome, too.
We are constantly watching the radar.
Storm clouds are moving through as I write. I have a session in a few hours, and I have them on alert that we may need to go early today since the forecast says clouds will stick around after the rain. This is the life of a beach photographer. We are also part-time meteorologists, lol.
A wait-and-see attitude is needed when dealing with Mother Nature. I have learned the hard way that I cannot change the weather, so we just see what we get and do our best to work around any issues. Issues can be wind, rain, humidity, fog, haze, or even the Saharian dust that comes every year (it brings a reddish tint to our air).
If it does rain, dance in the puddles until the sun comes out again.
Ok, I admit that the perfect day doesn’t exist, but we aim to make your family photos look gorgeous, like you. Let us worry about the forecast, and you continue to enjoy the sunshine or play in the puddles after the rain. Enjoy your vacation!
