Photographers on the Alabama Coast know where to take photos!
When visiting the beaches on the Alabama coast for the first time or the hundredth, people always want to know where to take photos. As an Orange Beach photographer, I have the answers to this question!

Here we are at the Pass in Orange Beach. It is a very popular gathering place for photos, fishing, and sunbathing.
Let’s start with the rocks.
Alabama Point East is by far the most popular, but one thing has changed here. At the most recent dredge, sand was moved from the pass to the rocks. This covered about 80% of the granite, leaving only a small rock pile for photos. It is hard to get a spot during the sunset hour. If you like the idea of using this location for your photo session, I recommend sunrise photos.
The Pavilion offers a great sunset!
The Alabama coast is a photographer’s dream. I know this because I have taken photos at several cities in Florida, and have found that Orange Beach and Gulf Shores have more than their share of photography locations. At the Pavilion, there are dunes, sea oats and water views available. The best news about this Alabama coast photo location is the sunset! There are no buildings to block the sunset over the dunes. The last few shots of the evening will have the sunset in your photo, which is awesome!
Let’s leave the Alabama coast for a moment and head over to Perdido Key.
Many of our photography clients choose to vacation in the quiet town of Perdido Key Florida. It is situated right next to Orange Beach Alabama and has many photo locations to choose from. Johnson’s beach in Perdido is a huge stretch of beach, dunes and open spaces. It ranks up there with the Pavilion as far as getting a sunset. There is also more room to spread out at this location. Between Orange Beach and Johnson’s Beach, there are also a couple of other public access stops that work well for family photos.
We can’t forget about Gulf Shores, our biggest town on the Alabama coast!
Gulf Shores which consists of Gulf Shores proper, West Beach and Fort Morgan Road has miles of shoreline. Within the city limits, there are plenty of beach access points that work well for photo sessions. If you happen to be renting a house or condo in West Beach or in the Fort Morgan area, then your beach will not be crowded, therefore we could probably take photos in your backyard.
Lot’s of rental homes and several condos have beaches that work for photos also.
A few that come to mind are The Turquoise Place in Orange Beach, Perdido Beach Resort, and the Phoenix West 2. All three of these mentioned have a vacant lot next door, so there is access to a spacious beach and a few dunes for your background. If you are in doubt about your rental property’s photo potential, ask us! If we do not know already, we can look it up on Google maps or take a look in person to give you our humble opinion.
